Kerala Flood: Highlights

Recently, Kerala is facing the worst situation of the unpredictable flood. A red alert has been withdrawn to all the regions of Kerala and Orange alert for eleven districts. Nearby states have pledged to contribute to Kerala flood relief. On 17th August 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas. The report says that bad weather conditions in Kerala caused a flood. About 357 people died and lakhs of peoples have been relocated to relief camps. Except for Trivanthapuram, Kollam, and Kasaragod, a red alert has been issued for all the districts of Kerala.

As rescue operations wound down, the government began to shift their focus on ensuring relief to affected peoples. The rebuilding of civic infrastructure damaged by the floods is also a major focus of the government. As the water recedes from major areas, the authorities are getting alert to deal with a possible outbreak of air-borne and water-borne diseases.

The focus of the government is to bring a life back of the people who are facing a problem, even to rescue the people trapped in the isolated area continues. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan says after a meeting review on Sunday that treatment of the affected will be taken up with the cooperation of the local place.

As the water level rises many villages are engulfed in the rain. The government of Kerala, says that 80 of the state’s dams have reached an insecured level and it appealed to the residents to pay attention to evacuation warning.

The central government has deployed the Army, Navy, Airforce, Coast Guard to the state and sent an additional 540 troops on Thursday. Another 200 boats and 23 helicopters are appointed to rescue people from the flood.

This year annual monsoon brings heavy rains and strong winds which ruins the lives of many people. No one has thought that this year a monsoon will bring a such a worst tragedy with itself. People are losing their families and houses. Unpredictable flood brings a drastic situation to the innocent people of Kerala. On August 8th, due to landslides and rains over 3.14 lakh, people have been moved to relief camps.
