Kenilworth Castle, Warwickshire

By Michelle Jr @abeeandtoe

Do we let a little bit of rain and wind stop us from our Day Tripping? No we do not. Which is why Boon and I found ourselves at Kenilworth Castle (in Kenilworth, Warwickshire) on a rather grotty day.

Robert Dudley built the castle to impress Queen Elizabeth I in 1575.  I’m not going to lie, most of my knowledge about Queen Elizabeth I comes from the Cate Blanchett film Elizabeth and I really don’t know how much of that is actually true, so the history lesson will stop there.

I’ve spent a fair amount of time wandering around old castles and so I agree with the English Heritage when they call these “spectacular castle ruins” they really are…

Hopefully I’ll get to go back one day when the sun is shining to take more pictures and see the gorgeous gardens properly.
