Frankly, Chief Scout rocks. Chief Scout is Georgia multi-instrumentalist Trey Rosenkampff’s loud, fiery spin on garage rock that’s layered to the hilt. Working with White Denim’s James Petralli to craft a sound divergent from his previous work, Rosenkampff has pushed his fuzzy rock between something traditional and innovative that maintains the youthful glow of his mere 20 years. His debut single, “Run Away From Home”, is a dynamic tune that barrels through driving basslines to a soaring chorus screamed triumphantly and purposefully by Rosenkampff. It’s memorability transcends the irresistible hooks and melodies, diving deeper into intricate layers of screeching guitar riffs and solos. Having seen Chief Scout live, I can say that the song’s overwhelming burst of energy shines as much on stage as it does through a nice pair of headphones. Keep your eyes (and ears) on Chief Scout these next few months, as I’m sure we’re in for more great music. “Run Away From Home” and the B-side “Oh Shit” are out now on Columbia.
