Katie the Pest isn’t really a new band but rather the resurgence of an “oldie but goodie.” Formerly a staple of Long Beach, California’s music scene, Katie the Pest’s recent album is release many years in the making, one whose modern essence is brimming with history. Recorded back in 2007 as a full-length follow up to their 2005 This Giant WIll Kill You EP, the new(ish) record Other Cities, Other Girls maintains that wonderfully messy, lo-fi sound that sweeps over you in waves.

“Spit It Out” is the truest representation of that sound. You can hear the bright, beachy melodies serenely perched overtop a murky wash of reverb-heavy guitar. It’s a raucous amalgamation of shoegazey noise that sweetly protests the misguided refusal of love. The beautiful timeliness of this nearly forgotten track and album is that it coincides with a rise in garage pop thats hits somewhere between bright femme and blurred fuzz with bands like Cayetana, Honeyblood, Beverly, and Habibi now capturing the buzz. A welcomed, lo-fi blast from the past, Katie the Pest satiated old fans and hopefully will make plenty of new ones.

Listen to the rest of Other Cities, Other Girls on their Bandamp page and check out the amazing “Spit it Out” above.
