Kane Incognito 5 Quick Questions [New Single – The Breakaway]

Kane Incognito's origin story is one that's rife with grief. After the loss of his brother and No Heat Tomorrow bandmate, Keeth Cherrington, Eric Kane, turned to music to assuage his pain. Eric (lead vocals and guitar), with the help of his cousins, Austin (bass and vocals) and Braydon Shaw (drums and vocals) and childhood friend, Stephen Schoenthaler (lead guitar) formed Kane Incognito.

The pitch to my inbox read "Their new single The Breakaway is a heavy hitting rock song with a country twang and bluesy vocals." The Breakaway, released on June 14th, fully delivers on this promise.

The music is a mix of rock, folk and blues, and it ticks all the boxes for me. The Edmonton, Alberta band released their debut EP, Brother, in 2017 and it hit #8 on the iTunes Rock Charts and they broke the iTunes Top 200 All Genre Chart with the single . In 2018 they released Diagnose Me as a single, and it received wide-spread accolades. That tune has been nominated for Indie Rock Recording of the Year at the Edmonton Music Awards which take place Thursday, June 27th. Our fingers are crossed for the win!

"I wrote this song when I was going through quite the change in life after my brother passed away. I went travelling in South America and clarity hit me with what I wanted to do, and what I needed to change in myself to get there. I needed to break away from the vicious cycles and negative people to really find my way. So I figured why not write an upbeat bluesy rock song to get the point across, and The Breakaway was born." - Press Release

If you're a fan of City and Colour, Scenic Route to Alaska or The Band, you owe it to yourself to give The Breakaway by Kane Incognito a listen. We're hoping they head out on the road and make some stops in Ontario.

Thanks to Eric for answering our questions.

5 Quick Questions with Kane Incognito

Q1) If you're on a road trip, what's the one album you can listen to on repeat?

Eric) Honestly George Ezra, his first album is the album that got me singing and where I found "my voice". It's full of good vibes, and the whole band loves him.

Q2) How are people responding to The Breakaway?

Eric) So far, so good. On the online side of things, it's getting quite a good response and especially at our live performances, it gets the crowd moving.

Q3) What can fans expect from a live performance?

Eric) Our live performance brings you along on the emotional roller coaster of the past few years of my life, with the loss of my brother and cousin to bandmates, and stepping on the stage fronting this project. With an interactive vibe, again with upbeat bluesy rock songs to a broken down "folky" raw acoustic section. We touch base on it all and try to leave the room with an underlying inspiration to chase one's passion.

Q4) Is there a band or artist you think people should be paying more attention to?

Eric) As a band we are following a few up and coming artists one being Matt Maeson, and I would say that but as of now, I think he is starting to get the recognition that he deserves.

Q5) Tell us something about you, that even your fans wouldn't know.

Eric) Well some may know but, 3 of us came from heavy metal bands prior to this project....🤘

BONUS QUESTION) Is there anything you want to share with our readers?

Eric) Just a huge thank you to anyone listening, sharing, and or liking anything we have done so far. And especially you guys for the share and "interview".
