We grew up going to the mission because it was right in our backyard. In fact, in fourth grade, every student has to do a "mission project" where you research one of the 21 missions, write a report about it, and make a model of one. I selected Santa Barbara even though I've never been, but San Juan will always be "my" mission. It's called the Jewel of the Missions and I'd have to agree. (PS-the mission I built was made out of sugar cubes and was pretty fantastic. And yummy.) During the Christmas holiday my sister Caitlin, Tanner, Paul, and I explored the Jewel.  Jewel of the missions Jewel of the missions Jewel of the missions We take museum going very seriously. No, there were no llama's at the mission but there were some at the petting zoo down the street and I had to throw it in.
