Jaw Gems: Heatwaver

Put four beat masters in a studio and see what happens. Jaw Gems ( Tyler Quist, Andrew Scherzer, DJ Moore and Ahmad Hassan Muhammad) are a true collective, who have already released two albums worth of free-flowing, slow electro-dance tunes. Their new one Heatwaver is a continuation of their previous output, with a penchant for flanging, smoldering, soulful keyboard parts, plenty of vintage beeps and purrs from the Sci-Fi soundtrack handbook, and a cold and crisp drum sound.

Repetitious - but never boring - it might prove to be a bit much to take in all at once. Heatwaver is a guidebook to understand the preferred music of the chill-out ravers. The four guys honor the old adage that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. They all pinched in and everybody wins. Recommended if you like STS9 and Lotus.
