According to prison information, Janaki Siriwardena, who was remanded by a court order after being arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department for allegedly aiding and abetting Thilini Priyamali’s financial frauds, has been detained at the Negombo prison considering her safety, prison sources said.
Thilini Priyamali is in the Welikada women’s section. A senior officer of the prison said that Janaki Siriwardena was taken to the women’s section of the Negombo prison, suspecting that there might be a risk of a clash between the two in the same prison. Janaki Siriwardena was remanded on November 5 after being presented to court. The officer said that she was taken from the court to the Welikada prison and immediately after the registration was completed, she was taken to the Negombo prison.
The presence of Thilini and Janaki in the same jail together also raised suspicions that the two would plan together to destroy evidence, he said. The Criminal Investigation Department CID officials and the lawyers of the parties who were prejudiced by the frauds also had allegedly made a request not to keep them both in the same prison.
