James Blake, Little Scream, ANOHNI

If you let them, this week’s new releases will sweep you up into a frenzy of emotion, hitting buoyant highs and pensive lows. We’ll begin with Little Scream and their sophomore injection of sunshine and rain, Cult Following. With some disco-infused elements peeking in throughout the album, the band’s newest effort ranges from bubbly falsetto to driving lower-tempo harmonies, all colliding for a compelling listen from start to finish. Next, Tourist just released U, a thoughtful, syncopated electronic debut that will build and twist its way into your heart.

Then, throw in some intensely written and produced new music from ANOHNI, whose album HOPELESSNESS wraps difficult but important subject matter in a blanket of deep electronic flourishes and triumphant melodies. After, Juliana Barwick will slow down the pace even further, offering her hushed, powerful vocals and almost spiritual delivery for a deeper listen. And finally, the icing on top of this emotionally formidable cake, James Blake just released The Colour in Anything. Let his distinctive vocals and beautifully sparse instrumentation do what they do best — leave you out-of-your-mind impressed.
