Ha, ha! I knew it, I knew it would be a shade of purple. Pantone Color of the Year 2014 was announced and it is, drum roll, Radiant Orchid. Yesterday, I took a stab at what it would be and, while I guessed it slightly incorrectly as a deep, vibrant shade of purple, I at least got the family of color correct.
Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute explained, “It’s a little different, it’s a little off the beaten path, and it’s not a primary color. It’s an invitation to innovation. The purple family offers opportunity to do creative things.” Check out her interview on Bloomberg TV here.
I really couldn’t agree more with this statement. If this color is freaking you out because you worry the fashion industry will be exclusively pushing menopausal styles and looks, think about the hot colors that have been around like bordeaux, oxblood, emerald green, shades of grey, rich browns and navy. All of these colors work beautifully with Radiant Orchid. And, don’t worry, I’ve decided to dedicate my two posts for next week all around how to incorporate this color into an everyday wardrobe.
