National Quilting Day

Attention crafters! Did you know that today is considered National Quilting Day? In June 1991, the National Quilting Association decided there should be a holiday to commemorate the craft. Since then, every third Saturday in March has been a day to celebrate the tradition and art of quilting.

Quilting is associated with the pioneering culture of North America, but since then it has evolved to better fit the nation’s contemporary interests and uses.

So, for all you modern day quilters out there, I have compiled some helpful resources in honor of your craft of choice.

  • All People Quilt – This website is a hub for several magazines, an active blog, tons of articles and videos, and even a quilting podcast!
  • The Quilter Magazine – This publication by All American Crafts turned 25 years old this year. You can subscribe, or simply browse some of the projects and techniques they have as freebies.

For Missouri Quilters

  • Saint Louis Modern Quilt Guild – If you’re a St. Louis resident and you’re interested in joining a local group of passionate and talented quilters, check out their blog. Or if you live elsewhere in Missouri, Quilt Guilds and Quilters Resources have lists of active groups throughout the state.
  • St. Louis Yellow Pages – These shops have materials for quilting, knitting, sewing, embroidery, and more, and they are all located in or around the St. Louis area.
  • Missouri Sewing and Quilt Shops Directory – Another great list by Quilters Resources, this one is for any other Missouri residents outside of St. Louis that need to stock up on supplies.
