It's Monday! What Are You Reading? Button Hosted by Kathryn from Book Date, this is a weekly event to share what we’ve read in the past week and what we hope to read, plus whatever else comes to mind. To learn more about each book, just click on the book cover!

FINISHED SINCE THE LAST UPDATE:

The Fireman by Joe Hill
The Partly Cloudy Patriot by Sarah Vowell
Girls on Fire by Robin Wasserman

I love how Joe Hill seems to be moving away from his horror roots and expanding into other genres. His latest is just a really good story that is a bit more reader-friendly than some of his other novels. Plus, how can you not love a heroine who has a special fondness for Disney and Mary Poppins?

Sarah Vowell is always good for a laugh and for a ton of fascinating facts about American History. This collection of essays was no different. In fact, her thoughts on the awful 2000 election made me love her that much more. I think this means we were meant to be besties.

Robin Wasserman’s novel is painful and surreal look at teen girls, the pressures they face, and just how easy it is to succumb to those pressures. I say surreal because I am just not used to reading about main characters who come of age during the 1990s, which is when I did. I loved this novel, as it confirmed just why I hated those years so much.
