What Are You Reading?

Hosted by Sheila from Book Journey, this is a weekly event to share what we’ve read in the past week and what we hope to read, plus whatever else comes to mind.

Finished Last Week:

The Innocent Sleep by Karen Perry
Last Night at the Blue Angel by Rebecca Rotert
The Half Life of Molly Pierce by Katrina Leno
The String Diaries by Stephen Jones

Did Not Finish

The Ring and the Crown by Melissa de la Cruz

I like Melissa de la Cruz. I adore Jennifer Ikeda. Unfortunately, the combination of the two did not work well at all. For one, the narration was excruciatingly slow. I was looking for the narration speed button on the CD player because I could not stand the long pauses between sentences and even longer silences between chapters (NB: CD players do not have them, I know that, but it did not stop me from looking out of desperation). Then there is the story itself. While the plot of the book still intrigues me, the narration did nothing to keep me interested. Perhaps it was the drawn-out sentences, but I found myself drifting away immediately and could not stay focused. I listened to an hour and cannot tell you the names of any characters or what really happens other than what was discussed in the prologue, which I ended up reading online. I do plan on getting this in print or at least an electronic version of it at some point in time, but I could not sit through another minute of the audiobook, which saddens me because I really do love Jennifer Ikeda as a narrator.

One Plus One by Jojo Moyes
