Last week I vented about bicyclists on the sidewalk. The other night I had to move out of the way of bicyclist coming at me on the sidewalk. I proceeded to cut my foot on something that was off the sidewalk, which would not have happened if the bicyclist had been in the street like they’re supposed to be.
I think pedestrians and bicyclists are natural allies, but riding in the street is the law, walking in the street is against it. I was sent the video clip below which demonstrates some of the many challenges of biking in New York, something I never undertook, but I do ride more and more these days. Yeah, it sucks to ride on the street where vehicles are largely oblivious to bike riders. Some communities are better than others, but it’s just not fair to pedestrians for people to zip down the sidewalk.
Pedestrians are still low man on the totem pole, but bikers aren’t too far from the bottom.
