Good shows, of course, get better as they go. Great shows sometimes erupt into drunken, unbridled bacchanals. That’s one way, at least, to describe what went down Friday night as fashion-forward, genre-hopping Brits Is Tropical took over Mercury Lounge. The band had plenty to celebrate – Friday saw the proper release of their long-brewing third LP, Black Anything (originally issued over the past 18 months as a series of slick-looking 12-inches), and marked the culmination of a brief U.S. tour. It also found the quartet in the hometown of their new label, Axis Mundi, whose personnel hopped onstage to join the band in an apocalyptic jam session finale that had frontwoman Kirstie Fleck stripped to her skivvies, tossing her locks every which way and showering the crowd in assorted beverages. It was a night of downtown decadence that, for one glorious hour, brought to mind the Lower East Side of yore.

Openers B.Miles were enlisted at the last minute to fill in for an ailing New Myths, delivering a very promising set of slow-burn, R&B-flecked pop ballads that would have made Jessie Ware or even Adele proud.
