Sean Spicer has not been doing the daily press briefings for the White House this week. The official reason for this is that he is fulfilling his obligation as a Naval reservist. But that is an obligation that could have been delayed. Rumor has it that Trump is unhappy about Spicer's bungled attempt to explain Trump's firing of James Comes as FBI director.
Spicer has been replaced in the briefings this week by Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders (the daughter of preacher and former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee). Rumor also has it that Trump is trying out Sanders as a replacement for Spicer this week, and that he likes what he sees so far.
After watching Sanders this week, I think Spicer's days are numbered. I believe he will be replaced, and probably replaced by Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Spicer has always looked uncomfortable trying to defend the lies of the Trump administration. Sanders does not. She has obviously imbibed the Trump Kool-aid, and liked it. She passes on, and defends, the administration's lies like a true believer -- someone who cares very little for the truth. She's a smarter version of Kellyanne Conway.
If the change does happen, I'll be a little sorry to see Spicer go. He personified the absurd incompetence of the Trump administration.
