Is Body Contouring Really Worth It?

By Therealsupermum @TheRealSupermum

Body contouring has been a sort of buzz word over the last few years, but the treatments vary massively in how invasive they are, price and most importantly effectiveness. These less invasive procedures can seem extra appealing when considered against the other options with the likes of liposuction.

There are a few procedures that work on dissolving fat and tightening the skin, whilst the best procedure to achieve this is by dieting and exercise, there are treatments available that can help trim the edges and shape up slightly.

Treatments available

There are a few different treatments, but the techniques that vary with each practitioner; here is a brief overview on what is available.

Mesotherapy

This treatment is the process of injecting small quantities of pharmaceutical and homeopathic medicines, along with a range of different vitamins and ingredients directly into the affected area. It is meant to target the fat cells and break them down.

Whilst this treatment is a lot less invasive than liposuction, results vary and there have been no scientific conclusions about how effective the treatment is at targeting the fat cells specifically.

Endermology

With the use of a special machine, endermology is a cellulite treatment that uses mechanical massage to increase the supply of blood and lymphatic fluid to the area to help induce collagen production in the area and make the skin smoother.

This process is pain free, albeit slightly uncomfortable as the practitioner will move the endermology machines’ motorised rolls across the affected areas to stimulate circulation deep within the skin layers.

There is a fair amount of disagreement with the amount of treatment needed, some practitioners say they will be able to produce visible results within 3-5 treatments, others say it takes a minimum of 10 treatments.

Whilst this treatment has more recognition across the scientific community, the results might still be questionable and expensive before you start to realize if it is making a difference or not.

Liposonix

The first branded treatment on the list, Liposonix has patented the use of high intensity ultrasound energy focussing on the targeted fat cells beneath the surface layers of the skin. They say that just a single treatment can result in dropping a dress or pant size.

What has been reported is a varying level of stress to the body during the treatment which might put people off. The treatment itself is also an expensive option, and whilst the treatment will not result in the same after treatment problems as liposuction the pain and discomfort can reportedly last up to a fortnight.

Overall there are body contouring options available, but it should be recognised that the only sustainable way to trim down and maintain a healthy lifestyle is by dieting and exercising, with a proper plan of action and well thought out diet, you don’t even need to give up eating nice foods.

But should you go down the route of these body contouring services, speak to as many advisors as possible, try to speak to people that have had the treatments themselves and research online for reviews and experiences.
