iPad case settled

A while back now Apple was hit with a court case in China pertaining to the trademarked name “iPad”, which Apple had claimed to have worldwide rights to as of the iPad launch in 2009.

The court case heard of how Chinese firm Proview has trademarked the name in 2000. The court battle didn’t last that long as both parties were told to “settle” in mediation.

Today it was announced that Apple had agree and transferred $60m (£38m) into the bank account of Proview as settlement, in return for the rights to use the name iPad.

But is this case over?

Proview also had made claims in the USA and the UK along similar lines to those of the China case. However, both these claims were dismissed by the courts and so it seems unlikely Proview will take further action following this settlement.
