Introducing Holobody [free Mp3]

Meet Holobody, Canada’s newest pop upstart and authors of one of the most dynamic records bandcamp has seen since Sufjan Steven’s Age of Adz. The project of Montreal producer Luke Loseth (aka Felix Green) and his sister Charlotte (aka Sea Oleena), Holobody just released their debut LP, Riverhood, on Mush Records.

A familial intimacy takes center stage on the album, achieving collaboration rarely seen with bands this young. The work tactfully eludes genre, adopting nearly every trick in the book for Riverhood. Sampling John Brion’s “Phone Call“ in “Prelude” (you may also recognize it sampled in Memoryhouse’s ”Lately“) or covering the spiritual “Down by the Riverside”, Holobody does it all. However, the album isn’t memorable merely because it is experimental — each track is a perfectly crafted pop gem. From Charlotte’s adolescent vocals (think a semi-serious Kitty Pryde) in “Hurricane Season” or Luke’s impressive hybrid production and ghostly whispers in album single, “Riverbed”, Riverhood is what you would expect from a group’s second or third record, cohesive and succinct.
