You just came back from Milan. What is the EuroCucina?

EuroCucina - the International Kitchen Furniture Exhibition - runs concurrently with the International Bathroom Exhibition in the broader context of the Saloni during the even-numbered years in Milan. The show brings together thousands of design manufacturers from all over the world. 300,000 visitors attend the show, displaying and gathering information and ideas for kitchen spaces.

How long have you been in working in design?

I have been working in interior design since 1995 after graduating from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

Does your team work together on every project?

Our team works together on every project. We are a tight group—which is lucky for us, as communication is everything in design.

Where do you get your inspiration?

I find inspiration everywhere I go and with those I come into contact with—whether it is Milan, the coffee shop, a great magazine, old friend, or new acquaintance, the interaction can positively affect our next design.

What are some frustrations you have when working on a project?

I don’t get frustrated with the design process very often. Sometimes, the length of time a product takes to receive can be frustrating for a client and in turn our team. However, once the piece arrives, it is typically worth the wait!

Is there a design that you’re particularly proud of?

We had the opportunity to design a home for a family whose child had autism. When we understood how our selections drastically changed his environment, thus bringing comfort to the family, we truly understood how important our work is.

Where do you see the design industry headed?

Technology is driving much of what we see in design. Whether it is a countertop that charges your cell phone or window coverings that are operated by your iPad, it is something many companies are embracing. Additionally, the mixing of materials is being widely accepted. Concrete with reclaimed wood and a variety of metals and finishes only adds charm and livability.

Are there any innovative products coming out soon that you’re excited about?

There are too many new products to list them all. From new finishes and appliance sizes to industrial lighting and details, to countertops that can withstand 1,200 degrees of heat, products that are on the horizon are something to be excited about!
