By Paperrunway @paperrunway

Emily Anderson is the creator of EmmyRose – with a love of all things visual, pretty and paper-esk.

Where do you call home?
I have 2 places that are most like home… our family home in Sydney’s north – it’s beautiful and is  situated on the water and our family holiday farm where I currently west of the blue mountains.

What is your creative process?
Most importantly a design brief, a clear head, original work …..and making my clients happy with the outcome.

How would you describe your design style?
It’s honest, a little shabbie sheike and can even be a little corporate..if needed.

Who or what inspires you?
Anything visual and pretty, especially nature… I’m a little greenie at heart… as for people and things – I guess anyone who is innovative and of course lovely, that’s inspiration all bundled up…

What is your process for tackling a design assignment?
Getting to know my client their visions and their style…Design briefs are always a must and when possible I like to visit a place of business or do a house call, I always think it helps to define the client’s style and vision.

What have the highlights been since starting your career?
Being recognised by the industry is always lovely. So when some of Australia’s biggest publications have contacted me to be interviewed, my heart skipped a beat. It’s always a magical feeling to be recognised as so much thought and hard work goes into my design work.

Were you given any memorable advice that you would like to share?
I was always taught to keep my eyes open, and the importance of girl power.

What are you working on now
A wedding and a design project for an ag company, a few newsletters, web buttons and some marketing advice…

How do you maintain a balance between your work and your life? (or not?)
Time out – I always stop to have a cup of tea and enjoy the outdoors… I usually head to the garden if I have designers block, it always helps.

Describe your dream studio
Amazingly I’m in it…I always wanted to move EmmyRose to a little country cottage. At the beginning of the year I moved. It’s on a farm – so I have much space and fresh air, and have just finished redesigning and renovating the inside, so it’s a little dream come true.

Do you have a “usual” day
Not really although I can be a creature of habit so every morning I must start with 3 cups of coffee a 10 minute sit on the veranda to think about the day ahead and priorities for my clients.

What is your favourite place to hang out?
At the moment my little garden, it’s my new little hobby, and feels a like a science…especially living amidst winter frosts..I have just planted a few beds of blooms and also a vegetable patch..so I’m teaching myself to cook with the seasons and I’m surprisingly loving it.

What do you love most about what you do?
Ohh that’s easy EVERYTHING…. I love drawing, I love designing and I love anything visual…..it’s really lovely to make someone’s vision a reality.
