Interview || Aicha from "Bjerkandera"

By Shimmerofpink @shimmerofpink
Hellooo shimmers,
I think it is fair to say that today's interviewee has the best ever blog name...
_______________________
1.What is the title of your blog and its link?
My current active blog is 'Bjerkandera.'
Bjerkandera.tumblr.com
*Where did you get that title from?
The blog was originally about the various kinds of mushrooms from all over the world. I started the blog in highschool...Eventually fashion sort of took over, so I changed the blog but kept the name.
2. What is your blog about?
It's a collection of photography from fashion editorials, I occasionally share quotes and passages from books.
3. Why and when did you start blogging?
I started blogging sometime in highschool and have continued on and off since. (I'm in college now.) It was just a way to kill time and prevent me from hoarding magazines in real life.
4. Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name's Aicha Reid, but I spell my first name with a "J" a lot of the time.
Ajsha. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I love to laugh and make people laugh.
I dabble in all sorts of creative work but I focus more on film, and occasionally TV projects, or music videos. I'm a pretty easy going person, I enjoy creating art.
5. What is your fashion style?
My aunt used to dress me in Billtornade as a kid and I had no idea they were a menswear brand.
Perhaps that explains why my style today's a bit more on the masculine side. When I go into a shop I'm naturally drawn to the more tailored pieces, the darker colors. Don't get me wrong, I'll throw on a floral tunic anytime, but my first choice is generally pieces where the tailoring itself adds character. Probably the most important factors of a wardrobe for me are: texture, tailoring, timelessness. I love a piece that I could wear in the 90's or today and still look effortlessly modern.
*Fashion Icons: I admire artists who have a style that only they could pull off. People like:
Gwen Stefani, Bjork, Janet Jackson, Grace Jones.
Prince, Devendra Banhart, Pete Doherty definitely shaped my idea of fashion from a young age.
6. Who is your favorite fashion designer?
First on the list are always Diesel and Kenzo, since I was dressed in those brands daily growing up. I remember wearing a lot of Chipie, Phard, and brands like that as well. I just grew to appreciate Diesel and Kenzo's styles the most as I got older. If I had to pick a few favorite major fashion designers I'd have to say: Bottega Veneta, Roksanda Ilinčić, Miu Miu, Elizabeth&James.
If you're into online shopping, I highly recommend you check out LN-CC (
www.ln-cc.com/) and Young British Designers (http://www.youngbritishdesigners.com) They've got a splendid selection to browse through.
7. Are you a full time blogger, if not what else do you do?
I'm definitely not a full-time blogger, although I do have my moments. I'm a student and aspiring full-time actor. When I'm not studying, I'm traveling. One of my favorite film directors (Sergei Paradjanov) is Armenian, and I credit him for sparking my interest in Armenian culture. I'd love to travel there someday.
8. Which bloggers do you look up to?
Cooking blogs. Mostly due to the fact that they have the time to prepare such beautiful foods and share them on the internet.
9. Who are your favorite bloggers?
My top three would have to be: Erika Altosaar, an artist from Blogspot, Tahti Syrjala, a Finnish-American fashionista from Lookbook, and Signe Siemsen, a model/blogger from Sweden. I name those three because I've followed their blogs (if any) the longest. I also check DROPTOKYO and HEL-LOOKS for interesting outfits when I have time.
10. What do you like most about blogging?
I like having the freedom to express myself in any way that I choose. When you share something personal on a blog, be it a photograph of yourself, text, fashion editorials, music, it's a bit of a euphoric experience, I think. I sort of feel like I'm expelling repressed emotions when I share something like that online. It's even nicer when people comment and "like" what you've shared.
11. What do you like the least about blogging?
That's tricky. I guess one should always expect to receive positive as well as negative feedback for certain posts. I haven't encountered any negative backlash from any of my past and present blog posts, but I've seen the way popular bloggers on sites like Tumblr are sometimes harassed by angry "anons" and it's a bit of an eyesore to be honest.
12. How do you come up with ideas of posts to write?
I don't do too much writing on Bjerkandera. It's more of an inspiration moodboard...at least I like to think so. I've written more frequently on other blogs of mine and I generally write about whatever I'm most enthused about at that time. I think genuine interest in something will always come across whether online or in print. I generally stick with what I think is cool enough for others to want to read about.
13. What kind of posts do you post most frequently?
I post mainly editorials from different fashion stories. There are some photographs by Tim Walker and other creative minds. You can browse my archive here: http://bjerkandera.tumblr.com/archive
14. What is your favorite post you have wrote?
I only post photos that I absolutely love. If I wouldn't hang it in my bedroom, I probably won't post it on my blog. Same goes for some of the more risqué editorials, although I'm not sure my mom would approve. (Haha)
15. Do you have any blogging tips?
Sure. Be yourself.
16. What do you hope to achieve this year?
I have a few different projects up my sleeve this year. I'm hoping to do more work in film and to produce a short film that's been stirring in my mind for far too long. Staying physically healthy and surrounded by positive people's an important goal for me as well.
