This huge oil leak is in the Abbey-church of Bellelay by artist Romain Crelier – not BP. Crelier likes to mix his artwork’s with surrounding architecture in order to exceed normal perceptions and expectations of space.

La Mise en Abîme consists of two large, rounded containers filled with used motor oil. Crelier chooses to use the recycled liquid because he considers the large-scale work to be ironic creations of “monochrome paintings using a despised substance.” Mirrored reflections provide visitors with a view of themselves naturally surrounded by the interior architecture, instantly establishing them as a part of the interactive installation.

La Mise en Abîme will be on display at the Abbey-church or Bellelay, Switzerland till September 16, 2013.
