Today the nation celebrates a great leader, motivator and face of change. Martin Luther King Jr., with much struggle, pushed to question the rules of humanity. He wanted equality not only for African-Americans, but all Americans not no matter what skin color or race. Although, our nation has grown, in this day we still face challenges and hardships because of it. I was drawn to this powerful quote, because change starts with one person standing up and doing what is morally right, regardless what society deems is right or not. I have yet to see Selma, the movie re-telling the historic march, but John Legend and Common both said powerful words in their acceptance speech for winning the Golden Globe for Best Original Song…
“Now is our time to change the world. “Selma” is now” – Common
“We still are in solidarity with those who are out there fighting for justice right now” John Legend
There is a lot of injustice happening in the world, but we mustn’t be afraid to speak up and do what it is right to help others.
