It’s one week until Thanksgiving, and while most of us are busy worrying about finalizing menus, grocery shopping, and getting the house in top form to entertain loved ones, there are hundreds of families and people in food shelters escaping the bitter cold, in search of a comforting meal. I shared earlier this week on Facebook how being a lover of
Christmas and all things holidays, I’ve been pretty bothered how overwhelming the season has become. Houses decked in lights, Christmas trees already up…yet it’s not even Thanksgiving! I still have my pumpkins and gourds adorning the house. I’m still embracing and taking in the beauty of the fall trees. As a society we always want more, with commercials, beautiful marketing, and even endless holiday inspiration from amazing bloggers {which I myself can’t get enough and love}, it can be easy to lose sight of the true meaning of the holidays.
No, the holidays shouldn’t be the only time we donate, volunteer our time, or show gratitude for our lives, but it does make us more aware of it. This month, more than others, I’ve made it a point to wake up thankful and go to bed grateful for my day, and to say “thank you” whenever possible, even when it’s not needed. It’s the simple things in life that I’m eternally grateful for, which is a big reason why I’ve always gone out of my way to help others. So with one week before we enjoy the most delicious meal of the year, take a step back from your busy schedule to be present in the moment, be thankful and give back.
