Inspired and the Sleep is back with a groovy summer slinger, “Pool Guard”. The San Diego group started as the insomniatic bedroom project of Max Greenhalgh and has slowly morphed into a four- (or five-) piece. With each added member, the textural layers of sound have grown as they explore each new instrument. Now, the band is streaming a bright and beachy jam that will definitely find a place on your poolside playlist.
Bouncing along with tambourine, flute and synth, the song pulls out its fair share of ooh’s, aah’s, whistles and sax. All in all, it makes for a much more vibrant mix than some of the softer tracks on their debut, Teenager. The production has changed a bit as well, throwing the vocals in the spotlight. It’s the kind of sound we heard on their last single, “Fly Low”, but it doesn’t get too heavy. “Pool Guard” is the type of track to knock on your door, dance around your living room and let itself out into another neighbor’s backyard, shimmying all the way.
