Note: A wooden netsuke carved into a shape of two volumes of "Kokin-shu", the first anthology of Japanese poetry (905 BC), which contains 1,111 poems.
Born in 17th-century Japan, the netsuke is a miniature sculpture originally used as a button fastener on the cords of an inro box. Netsuke later developed into ornately sculpted objects of craftsmanship.
