Indiana Bridges: Boner Bridge

Indiana Bridges: Boner Bridge

Indiana bridges are not always the easiest things to find as we learned with Boner Bridge in Hatfield, Indiana.

The road seemed to lead to nowhere. The condition of the road wasn’t the best and, to make things even more thrilling–it was pouring down rain.

If you’ve followed along in the travels of little Indiana for very long, you know how great we are at getting lost.

Oh, yes we did. We took a wrong turn and ended up driving a half a mile down a gravel road–which turned out to be someone’s driveway!

Driving the other way, the way we should have gone, we had barking dogs chase after our car.

I can’t make this stuff up.

But when we do eventually get there–it is so worth it!

The longest bridge of it’s kind in Indiana and also supremely rare, the Boner Bridge is quite a site to see.

It’s an iron bowstring bridge that was built all the way back in 1866.It is still in use today! It serves to connect Warrick County and Spencer County.

The three arching spans stretch across Little Pigeon River.

According to the Spencer County Tourism Website, Boner Bridge is the “longest, bowstring, wrought iron, through truss bridge structure in the state of Indiana.”

While Indiana is home to quite a few unique bridges, they are not particularly common. Many have been lost through the years.

Make your way to Spencer County and view this fantastic Indiana attraction–you won’t regret it!
