Indiana Blogs: Perfection isn’t Happy

Indiana blog Perfection isn’t Happy is a personal blog about a perfectionist trying to go with the flow a little bit more.

Adjusting to life as a newlywed, fitting in fitness, and a bit of chocolate every day, her posts will certainly keep you entertained!

She’s figuring out what she wants–and as her readers, we get to be right there with her.

Indiana Blogs: Perfection isn’t Happy

Why did you start Perfection isn’t Happy?
I started my blog in 2010 as an outlet from the stressful demands of college. It’s hard to believe that I’ve been blogging for nearly three years now! So much has changed since I opened my own little corner of the blog world, but my passion for writing hasn’t gone anywhere.

What about that name? Why Perfection isn’t Happy?
I’m a control freak – type A, perfectionist to a T. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that I need to let go and go with the flow more often. Striving for perfection all of the time isn’t healthy and it doesn’t make me happy. ‘Perfection Isn’t Happy’ is the message that I try to portray through my blog posts – you don’t need to be perfect in order to be happy.

What are three of your most favorite posts?

What keeps you ready and raring to post? Why do you blog?
I love to write, and I love the blogging community. My passion for writing keeps the words flowing, but all of the connections that I’ve made through blogging keep me coming back every day. I’ve met so many interesting and inspiring people, and I wouldn’t trade this hobby for anything.

What can people expect when they hop onto your blog?
My blog is all about my life as a twenty something. When I first began blogging, I was a college student going through the motions of classes and homework, but my blog has grown up a little since then. I discuss life as a newlywed, and big life changes such as buying my first home and finding a career that I’m passionate about. I also like to talk about food (especially chocolate), fitness and family.

You certainly like to stay busy! Exercise seems to be a big priority in your life–what’s your favorite way to keep fit?
I mentioned above that I have a type A personality, and exercise is one thing that keeps me sane. I love all forms of fitness, but I’m really into group exercise classes right now.

After running my second half marathon in May, I injured my knee and decided to take a break from running. Since then, I’ve been enjoying all of the spinning, strength training and Zumba classes that my gym offers!

It looks like you enjoy puttering around in the kitchen. Have you always loved cooking in the kitchen or is this a newer development?
I’ve always loved to bake, but cooking is a newer development. Before I got married, I didn’t have any interest in cooking. I secretly hoped that my husband would be okay with homemade baked goods for dinner every night, because that’s the best (or so I thought) that I could do.

Thankfully, in our first year of marriage, I’ve really grown to love cooking and experimenting in the kitchen!

What did you want to be when you grew up? What did you become?
When I was little, I wanted to be so many things — a mom, a singer, a dancer, a pharmacist, a pediatrician, a writer. I’m pretty sure that I changed my mind daily.

In college, I changed my major several times because I had so many interests and couldn’t make up my mind. Thankfully, this year has given me a lot of clarity, and I know that I want to use my B.A. in Communications to do something with writing or social media.  I’m currently working as a summer camp coordinator while job searching for a position in communications.

Is there anything else that you would like little Indiana readers to know about you or your blog?
I always love to meet new readers, so I encourage readers, new and old, to comment and join in on the conversations! If you’ve ever been a twenty something trying to find your way, or will soon be twenty something trying to find your way, this blog is for you. You can follow me on Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest.
