Indiana Blogs: Eternal Lizdom
Indiana Blogs: Eternal Lizdom

Eternal Lizdom is not easy to label with any one thing: It’s mom blog, personal blog, fitness, faith, and so on and so forth. Liz tells it like it is, freely sharing her well-developed thoughts and feelings.

What is it? A refreshingly honest read. Her writing is so real and warm that Liz feels like a neighbor, a friend, or a sister. She’s someone we can relate to–Hoosier or not, it’s all just very interesting.

Indiana Blogs: Eternal Lizdom

Why did you start Eternal Lizdom?
I started blogging in Sept of 2008.  I started… because 2 of my friends kept telling me that I should.  Now that I think about it, they would tell me that every time I told them a story… maybe they just wanted me to stop talking?

I started blogging with no real purpose in mind and I can’t say that I fit a specific niche now.  I’m part Mommy blogger, part Faith blogger, part Opinion blogger, part Fitness blogger, part Marriage blogger.  I think that it would be easy to put me in a “straight, white, Christian, suburban” box but once you start getting to know me, I don’t completely fit that mold.

What are three of your most favorite posts (with links, please!)

Probably the best way to get to know me is to check out my “About Me” page that has links to some of my favorite posts.

What keeps you ready and raring to post? Why do you blog?

Funny- I’ve hit my first real block lately.  Blogging started to feel more like a chore and less like a venting of things I’m passionate about.

My best posts come when I go fast and furious with whatever I’m feeling. So I have been taking a little break but have posted when I felt strongly about wanting to share something.

I blog… to connect to other people.  I’ve seen amazing relationships come from blogging.  I blog because I have something to say and I’ve seen the power that words have.

Do you have a life motto? Where did it come from?
“You did the best you could.  And when you knew better, you did better.”  Maya Angelou.

I heard that quote several years ago and it just fit. I think I’m often striving to learn and grow and do better. It’s when I stop improving that I feel stagnant.

I’m eager to learn in big ways and small, about book things and life things and people things. I think it also speaks to my nature of forgiveness and especially loving and forgiving yourself.

You frequently tell it like it is. You don’t hold back. Do you ever find it hard to blog what you really feel and think?

Sometimes!  My mom is a dedicated reader.  She started reading about a year or so ago and I have to admit that there are times I’ve held back on a post because of how it might impact my mom.

I have a lot to share about my past and my concern sometimes is that it could hurt my mom’s feelings and I never want to do that. Other than that, I feel strongly about the things I share and tend to just sit down and let it all out and not go back to edit a lot of the content. I think that opinions and passionate subjects that are shared in a respectful way are most impactful.

When I write about  healthy living or about divorce- I’m not judging the people who don’t hold the same point of view and I think that comes across even as I share my personal experience or opinions.

I try to write with a more positive slant about everything- including the harder subjects.

What is your superhero weakness?

I think the one thing that really can lead to me losing my cool is when someone tries to come to my blog to specifically be hateful towards me or my commenters. There is a group of women that “know” me from the internet and have decided they hate me and will, at times, post comments just to be mean or try to “put me in my place.”

Thankfully, I can usually stay focused on the people who know me in real life and know what I’m all about or stay focused on the friends I’ve made through blogging who understand my intent and purpose.

Is there anything else you would like little Indiana readers to know about you or your blog?
I’m not all serious!  I like to be fun and silly and live life to the fullest and let loose with my friends and family. Other than that, my hope would be that people would come visit, leave a comment or drop me an email and get to know me and let me get to know them!
