Having watched the film no fewer than three times in the previous week, I can’t think of any other way to title this post about my most recent DVD rentals.
I can still remember seeing the trailer for this film, back in 2010… I’d convinced myself that it was as far back as 2008 but, like so many films I’m trying to catch-up with using the convenience of LoveFilm rental; it’s one I missed out on the first time around.
I always knew I would like it and I could tell it would be quite special. But for where I assumed it would center around a single character (or small group) with super-human/extra-sensory powers, I was a little bit off.
There isn’t an awful lot that I’m prepared to say because, if you haven’t already seen it yourself (and you very probably have) then you have so much to look forward to. On my first viewing, I fell asleep halfway through and was going to watch it a second time, regardless. On that occasion, I felt like I could understand a lot more about those early scenes I had witnessed twenty-four hours earlier. Yes, it’s one of those films (a bit like The Matrix, among others) where you can rediscover, understand and realize after multiple viewings.
After my second, I was convinced that I saw ‘the truth’, only for that perception to be reversed when I watched one third and final time before returning the disc. I’ll certainly be adding this to my DVD collection at a later date!
I didn’t even realize it was a Christopher Nolan film until I first saw the credits roll. I’m already a big fan of the Batman Triology (no fewer than five actors from there also appear in Inception) and Interstellar, before Christmas, was undoubtedly the greatest film I watched last year.
My secondary disc was Garden State; the 2004 directorial debut for one Zach Braff, who also starred in the film. I feel quite old when I realize how long this ‘new’ film has now been available and I’m unclear on my initial intentions for seeing it… Possibly because I felt I might be able to relate to the main character? I was not in to Scrubs and I couldn’t tell you what else Zach Braff has been in but I quite enjoyed the film. It was both pleasant and interesting although, I don’t expect to be adding it to my collection immediately.
Later this week, I think I’m going to receive one fairly-recent remake of an all-time classic and the other, I think, lies within the realms of science fiction… Thanks for reading!
