ILLA J’S DEPTH AND CONFIDENCE SHOWS ON ‘STRIPPERS’ [STREAM] Pause Illa J – Strippers SoundCloud

Illa J, Detroit-bred and now Montreal-based singer/songwriter/rapper/producer and younger brother of J Dilla (one of hip hop’s greatest talents), continues to impress and stand out as a multi-faceted artist. Just as he did on the track “Seeds” off of Potatohead People’s latest work Big Luxury, Illa puts it down on “Strippers”. With his incredible rhymes and a hook that puts listeners in a trance, Illa J sounds mature, confident, and unique as ever. The song is a nod to the hustlers, an ode to the ladies, and recalls the mission statements of the 90s. The cut is a slapper with its truck-rattling bass and neck-snapping thunder claps — think Waajeed meets Dam-Funk – and was co-produced by another Montreal standout, Kaytranada as the first single off of Illa J’s upcoming album. The album is entirely produced by Potatohead People along with co-producers like Kaytranada and other guest lyricists. We can only imagine what other heat rocks are to come from Illa J and his Canadian crew!
