If I Haven’t Started Yet, Perfect Still Exists

By Stacylrust

My career can still be a straight line to the top.

I can still do everything right.

The more time I spend at the starting line, the longer I can fantasize about finishing first.

The longer I wait, the longer I postpone the judgment. The attention. The trial-and-error.

If I keep sitting in the shadows, I can avoid making any mistakes in public.

In my head, my ideas are kept safe from critical eyes, they still have the potential for perfect.

If I keep my plan hidden, it’s still mine… mine to touch up, to polish, to finish, to reconfigure.

As long as it’s just mine, it can’t be marred by the words and rejections of other people.

The minute I start, perfect fades away…

If I never start… my work, my career, and my life… it all stays perfect. I can avoid the messy parts, and hang on to perfect, if I just stay small enough.

But, what does that leave?

Life at the starting line?

A life of never pursuing my greatest calling? Never embarking on my most exciting projects?

Never writing that book? Never starting that band? Never doing something bigger?

Is that really perfect?

Life is crazy. It’s a ride. Just start.
