Today I’m 37 weeks (and not wearing makeup…one of the many things I’ve let go recently!)
In the past I’ve been on bed rest so to have avoided it completely this time around is just amazing. I attribute this to three things:
1. Prayer – my husband and I asked God to give us a different experience this time. That we would not have any need for bed rest and that I would not have morning sickness. He answered that prayer in a few ways I believe, which are listed below.
2. I started taking B vitamins before we conceived this little girl, hoping that it would relieve the terrible morning sickness that I had with the boys. It turns out, I was most likely magnesium deficient (most people are). Anyhow, B vitamins facilitate magnesium absorption so I was unknowingly correcting my magnesium deficiency by taking the B’s.

The result: ZERO morning sickness. I’m usually throwing up at least once/day from week 7-24 or 24! And no preterm scares!
Mommypotamus wrote a great post about the magnesium/morning sickness link HERE.
3. Carry-on Relief. Any time I started having too many contractions I would take a teaspoon of this herbal blend and they would stop.
I’m so, so thankful for these natural remedies that not only completely kept morning sickness at bay but I believe also kept me from having preterm symptoms. I don’t believe that this is due to having a little girl as opposed to a boy. Every woman in my family suffers from terrible morning sickness, regardless of the sex of their baby, which I think must be due to the magnesium deficiency (often this is hereditary). My cousin tried the B vitamins as well and had far less morning sickness with her most recent addition, a third girl!
Oh, also? I just got my Group B Strep test results back and they were NEGATIVE! First time for that too! My midwife had me taking FemDophilus since week 28 for this and it obviously worked like a charm! The key will be continuing it until delivery.

So really, I have nothing to complain about!
My baby is full term. I never got sick. I never was on bed rest. We don’t have to worry about Group B Strep. Ahhh….
So, if only my boys would calm down a bit. I’m sitting a lot more than usual these days and think they must sense my weakness because they acting crazy! It’s as though they know that I can’t jump up off the couch to intervene…I’m mostly just calling out from my perch “What’s going on in there???…silence” “Are you ok?!” “What just happened?”…more silence, a giggle, and then possibly a grunt and squawk and a “We’re fine!!”
Miles has started making this crazy face when I say “smile” and yes, they locked themselves in the dog kennel…
Even the dog is in cahoots with them. He got the nerve to jump up on my new clean sheets on the bed today (because I’m too lazy these days to make the bed most of the time)…I’m surprised he was able to do it, considering how short and fat he is.
Ah, well, even with the chaos I’m so happy. I can’t wait to meet our little girl. I’m one of those people who feels less tired right after having a baby than during pregnancy so I’m looking forward to getting back to normal.
I saw a picture of myself the other day from before I had Miles.
I had abs you guys, like 6 of them. I’m getting those suckers back. Believe you me.
I’ve gained 35 lbs so far, allowing myself only 3-5 more. Most girls only need to gain about 25, but since I’m tall (5′ 11″) and started my pregnancy thin, my midwife was ok with 35-40 max. Anything more than this puts you and your baby at a higher risk for complications, so I’m thankful that my healthy diet has allowed for this to be a really easy thing to achieve!
I think that pregnancy should be the time of your life where you eat the healthiest that you ever have! I mean, that little baby is completely dependent you for 100% of their nourishment and development! That’s pretty good motivation in my book!
Alright, I’m going to bed…so happy.
live well. be well.
