Today I’m off to Newmarket races for the day. I’ve never been before, and I have no idea what to expect and even less of an idea about what to wear! My generous brother-in-law gave me and my husband tickets for today’s race-day for Christmas – and to top it all off, after the races is a concert performance by cheesy pop group Steps (one of my favorite as a kid!).
So I’m really looking forward to going to this event later this afternoon, but the dress-code seems really strict which is confusing me no end! Hubby is okay as long as he wears trousers and a shirt, an absolute no-brainer! But for me, I can’t seem to find something dressy enough yet summery enough to wear, and what about the hat situation?! Do I have to wear a hat or is this an optional extravagance? For a start, I don’t have a hat so would have to nip round to mum’s to borrow something! I do however have a great many fascinators and flowers-on-headbands, so would this be acceptable, or will I look like I’m only making a half-hearted attempt? Or should I really go for it and stick a tutu on my head like this hat below?!
I think I’ve left it a bit late to sort out a race-day outfit, so fingers crossed that I’ll be ready and dressed in something suitable by lunchtime… in fact, I’d better get on with it now! I’ll let you know how I get on
