I’m Done with Chemo!

By Lisaorchard @lisaorchard1

Hello everyone, I hope all is well with you! I just thought I’d give you an update on my chemo journey. My doctor had originally told me that I would have to have monthly infusions of the drug Herceptin for a year.

When I found this out, I was flabbergasted because this was never mentioned in my educational appointment with the nurse before I started chemo. When I learned this, I became depressed because I was under the impression that I would be done in four months…now I was being told I had a year to go. I was extremely disappointed, even though I knew these drugs were curing me.

Then I had an appointment with my doctor. The roads were slick so I almost cancelled the appointment, but I’m so glad I didn’t because he told me that there had been a mix up. That’s right. I didn’t have to do the Herceptin for a year!  I was so excited because that meant I was done with chemo. Just like that. I was done.

There are no words to express the relief I felt, I had made it through the most trying period in my life, no more infusions, and side effects. The doctor told me it could take as little as a month to get back to normal or it could take months because everyone is different.

So, that’s what I’m working on right now. I still get nauseous in the morning, but the variety of what I can eat and keep down has expanded and I’m eating more. I’m feeling a little bit better every day and my energy level is slowly increasing.

I can’t express how excited I am about this! I feel like I’ve been given a new lease on life. Something like this really makes you stop and look at what’s really important in your life. I appreciate my family so much more now especially my hubby. Sniff. He was my rock during this whole time.

I hope by blogging about my journey that I’ve helped others who are struggling with either cancer or some other illness. I hope that they realize they’re not alone in their struggles and I encourage them to reach out for help.

Thanks for stopping by and for all the people who have left words of encouragement for me. You are all greatly appreciated!
