Christmas Spirit
Every year, the twinkle twinkle magic of this city leaves me with a wonderful feeling, that I like to call Christmas spirit.
Modena is not a large city, but in it’s quaintness there are so many beautiful things to discover. With so much history (origins that date back to the 3rd century BC), it is no wonder, that the city center is divided into little borghi (boroughs) each with a distinct character.
There is a lot of pride by shop owners of their particular boroughs, and each year, they pay to have lights installed on the streets in front of their shops.
It’s interesting to note that all of the lights in the city are not paid for by the city council, they are the generous contribution of individual small business owners as a gift to the citizens of Modena. The lights along with an antique carousel, miniature train that goes through the whole city, free concerts, workshops, events and tastings are all contributions by shop owners and the City to make this time of year absolutely magical and fantastic for kids.
One of my favorite things to do in December is bundle up in the evening and head out for an aperitivo with my husband and toddler. Sometimes we meet up with friends, or are lucky enough to catch some live music in a caffè or on the street, and if we head out early enough I let my son ride the carousel.
Giving Thanks
Thanks to Diana at Cook the Tv for requesting to see more pictures of Italy. My new camera arrived this week and I feel like I am seeing for the first time! What a difference a camera can make in the joy I feel in taking pictures! So expect to see some nicer pictures in 2014, that will hopefully get better as the year progresses.
Thanksgiving isn’t the only time of year for reflecting on all we have. Often around Christmas I take a look at what I have under the tree and under my roof and I am grateful for how fortunate I am. I am also thankful that I’ve had fantastic support from friends, family and other bloggers that I’ve met on this blogging adventure that have made this time of my life very worthwhile.
