Bringing a sense of endearment to a saturated folk scene, I Am The Sky is the solo musical pursuit of Montreal musician and filmmaker Jesse Daniel Smith. A former member of indie rock band Apache Kingdom and a current member of folk duo Bride & Groom, his unique gravelly vocals waft suitably over both musical varieties. In this latest solo effort, his vocals really get to shine as the centerpiece of acoustic folk odes with sweetly lingering riffs. “Half a Man”, his first real single, is a polished and quiet number that follows a jovially plucked bassline, signature guitar riffs and a lightly tinkling piano harmonization. Smith sings in his raspy voice to a love he wishes to keep, and the result is charmingly pleasant and addictive. I Am The Sky’s upcoming The World Doesn’t Need Another Record EP is something we’re pretty sure we need. Stay tuned for more greatness from this folky fella and swoon while listening to the rest of the stripped down material on his SoundCloud.
