I Am Breaking Up!

By Tanvi Rastogi @tanviidotcom
Have you ever broken up with someone and he/she didn't even know you were in a relationship? No? Well, sit tight. I am about to do, just that.

I am breaking up with Salman Khan after our long relationship of 24 years (since 1989 when his movie Maine Pyar Kiya came out).  I was 7 year old and had been invited to a neighbor's kid's birthday party. We were all playing a game where everyone had to pick a 'secret' question or task from a bowl. The ones who complied with the rules where given a 'present' (probably something minuscule like a candy!) and the ones who didn't comply were out of the game. It was a pretty simple game. The question I got was "Who is your favorite movie actor?". In my innocent sweet voice, or so I would like to believe, I answered, "Salman Khan". I remember that the mothers present at the birthday party giggled at my answer. I also remember being offended (at that tender age?!?!) by the remark made by one of the mothers, "Chote bacchon ko bhi Salman Khan pasand hai!" Translation: Even kids like Salman Khan. If I could go back in time, I could tell her, "Do you have copyright over him? You are married, so shut-the-f-up! I digress. Anyhoo ... that one answer changed my life. I didn't even know it back then but from that moment onwards I officially became a Salman Khan fan. Ever since I have had his back, even though he has had no idea, through thick-and-thin. He can only act in Sooraj Barjatya's movies, but then I never liked him for his acting. Purely for his looks. Over the last decade I was even able to predict when and what would happen. When his show Dus Ka Dum started I predicted his public image would change for better. And it did. When I saw the first look of Dabangg (1) I predicted his career would hike like never before. And it did. And last year while watching Bigg Boss (Indian version of Big Brother) I predicted that his 'high' wave is over and now he is on his way down. And for good this time ... Its yet to be seen! He has done, or at least been accused of doing, everything wrong by the book. But I have turned the other eye simple because I managed to find an excuse to do so.   Accusation on him: Violent with his girlfriend *ash-achhoo-warya* My Excuse: Who knows. I wasn't there.  Accusation on him: Went hunting and killed endangered species *blackbuck* My Excuse: We all have to die one day.  Accusation on him: Does totally pointless and crap movies My Excuse: No one is forcing anyone to watch them.  ... you get the idea ... So why am I breaking up with him now? Well ... for one he is not that good looking any more. He is aging and not that well, if I may say. I am pretty superficial like that! But also because I think he is an arrogant bully. Something I cannot stand AT ALL. No matter what. That's where I draw the line. For the above accusations I was willing to let go because I didn't have any proof ... it was  all hearsay ... but his arrogant-bullying behavior is up on the television in front of my two eyes. And I do not like it one bit. He is rude, obnoxious and is starting to take his fans for granted. And just like that, after 24 years, I am over him. So here goes ... Its over between us, Mr. Salman Khan. You have lost a fan. A very good one at that! ... moving on ...  (Now all my focus will be on Hrithik Roshan. Our relationship started in 2000, but more about it some other time.)
