April 27, 2014
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The University of Pittsburgh Athletics Department and Pitt IMG Sports Marketing announced a new, unique partnership that taps into part of the region's history while reaching out in the community to make a difference.
Huntington Bank joins the Panther Partner family as the presenting sponsor of the 2014 Pitt Football campaign, the school's 125th season in its storied history.
Moreover, for each first down the Panthers achieve on the playing field during its 125th season on the gridiron, Huntington Bank will donate $125 to the Free Care Fund at Children's Hospital of UPMC of Pittsburgh. The Free Care Fund helps to ensure that children within the region receive the expert care they need and deserve regardless of their families' insurance or ability to pay.
"We are excited that Huntington Bank has partnered with us in celebrating the great history of our football program, and doing it in such a responsible way," said Pitt Athletics Director Steve Pederson. "We look forward to partnering with Huntington, hopefully helping Children's Hospital in a big way in the process."
"Since Huntington opened its doors in 1866, there has been a strong commitment to support the organizations that drive our local economy, strengthen our neighborhoods and enrich the cultural fabric of our community. With a remarkable nine national championships (the most in the East), to breaking racial barriers in the 50's to coaching legends that knew the value of community and building character in its players, the University of Pittsburgh's football program is a tremendous asset to our region. We're honored to partner with the Pitt Panthers to help the children and families of our region by donating $125 for every Panther first down to the Free Care Fund at Children's Hospital." said Susie Shipley, President, Huntington Bank Western Pennsylvania & Ohio Valley.
"We are grateful for the dedication and generous giving efforts of Huntington Bank and the University of Pittsburgh Athletics," said J. Gregory Barrett, President & Chief Development Officer, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation.
Huntington Bank will also serve as the Presenting sponsor of the Annual Kickoff Luncheon held in August. As a Panther Partner, Huntington will be prominently promoted throughout the season across various media assets.
