When most people think of floral prints, they think of spring and summer. This fall, however, florals are trendy in a big way, even for work. Florals can be tricky to the office because, typically, they aren’t the most corporate or powerful of prints. Florals can be passive and soft in appearance, not exactly two adjectives the professional women want describing their corporate images. However, there is a way to not only wear floral this fall, but wear them to work in an appropriate manner. Here are my tips and outfits for inspiration so you can wear fall florals to work.
How to wear fall florals to work
Tip #1- Wear florals in tailored silhouettes

Reactivate it to view this content. The first tip is to look for floral patterns in tailored silhouettes, like this professional floral printed pencil skirt from J. Crew. The beauty of floral prints is they are often full of color which gives you a lot of options in how to wear them. Pulling the colors from the skirt, I added this coral sleeveless French Connection top, a camel cardigan from Gap and a pair of pumps in dark teal from Ivanka Trump. To bring the colors of the skirt up near the face I finished the outfit with this bib necklace from Stella & Dot and added gold stud earrings from Kendra Philip.
Tip #2- Feminize the menswear trend

While this trend is perfect for the corporate gal, it can also get a little serious looking. Using a fall floral top, like this top from Boden, under a pinstripe suit, balance is created and makes the suit look more feminine. And don’t be shy about mixing prints with pinstripes. This Reiss suit looks beautiful with this floral top layered underneath it. The outfit is further femininized with these colorful Anthropologie earrings and the look is finished for fall with navy booties from Nine West.
Tip #3- Add a tailored touch to a soft floral

If you have a dress that falls into this category, and it just seems too relaxed for work, try pairing the piece with a tailored component, like I am doing with this floral Modcloth dress and bright red tailored blazer. To finish the outfit I added a pair of grey ankle strap heels from Anthropologie and a grey multi-strand necklace from Nordstrom.
Florals that can’t make it in fall
Despite the floral trend for fall, before you take all of your florals from summer into the cooler weather, make sure they will work in the autumn. Avoid wearing summer florals that are too light, summery or soft. Fall florals are usually rich in color and in fabrics that are fall friendly.
