How to Use Manuka Honey for It’s Benefits

By Lukel @beautytipsfree

One of the top natural, multi-purpose products of any kind is manuka honey because it’s used for everything from treating eczema and acne, to reducing the effects of acid reflux. Looking back through time, the healing benefits of manuka honey were even used on soldiers who were injured in battle.

As for the origins of manuka honey, it’s made from bees that gather nectar from Manuka trees, and it is most commonly found in New Zealand and Australia. Fortunately, it’s also found in stores around the world because there’s such a demand for the healing benefits of manuka honey. If you’re wondering how you too can use this honey, here is a look at some various applications for it.

Manuka Honey : Benefits

Using Manuka Honey to Treat Stomach Conditions

Add active manuka honey to a daily routine by putting it in warm drinks like tea or hot water. Those looking for an alternative way to ingest this honey can also spread manuka on a biscuit or toast. But the most effective method of using manuka honey is to simply swallow a teaspoon of it three times daily, which keeps you from diluting the product in any way.

How to use Manuka Honey for Skin Conditions

Apply manuka oil topically to help skin recover from acne, cuts, scrapes, eczema, burns, and other skin conditions. When applied topically, manuka creates a wall to protect debris and germs from getting into the affected area. After applying the honey to your skin, cover the area with a bandage to further protect it – unless you’re using manuka honey on acne or eczema since these don’t require too much protection.

Using Manuka Honey to Treat Arthritis

Rather than using a pain reliever or steroids to alleviate arthritic symptoms, people can use manuka honey as a natural form of pain relief for joint/muscle stiffness. The reason why manuka works so well for treating arthritis is that its anti-inflammatory capabilities help reduce the pain associated with this problem. When using manuka honey to treat arthritis, apply it topically so that the product is absorbed into the skin.

Treating Burns with Manuka Honey

Manuka honey works as a barrier and keeps infections down, while relieving pain caused by burns. Furthermore, applying this honey to burns also helps heal skin and reduces the appearance of scars. It’s also worth mentioning that manuka differs from other types of honey because it contains higher levels of antibacterial properties. When using this product to treat burns, apply it before putting bandages on burns to keep the bandage from sticking to the affected area.

Relieving Sore Throats

Colds bring all sorts of nasty problems like sore throats; but thankfully, manuka honey relieves sore throat symptoms and soothes coughs as well. Because manuka honey has antiseptic and antibacterial properties, it’s also helpful when trying to heal laryngitis. Swallow a spoonful of the honey or add it to a cup of tea with lemon juice to soothe a sore, itchy throat.

Healing Acne with Manuka Honey

Manuka honey is helpful in treating acne because it pulls the impurities from pimples out, while also reducing bacteria and inflammation. As mentioned before, it can be used to heal various skin problems such as acne scars. Apply manuka honey right on top of acne, and leave it on for 15 minutes before washing the honey off.

As for purchasing manuka honey, one of the best places to get it is online. When you’re searching for manuka honey, look for the Unique Manuka Factor (UMF) because a higher number indicates more antibacterial properties, and that it’ll be better able to heal the aforementioned problems. Manuka that contains a UMF of 12 or higher is best, so keep this in mind if you shop for manuka honey online.
