How to Use Essential Oils

The essential oil has been becoming a hype recently. A lot of people look for and buy this kind of oil. It is because essential oil is believed to be able to give many various benefits. It is beneficial for health, skin treatment, and more. So, it is not surprising that there are quite many essential oil brands available in the market today. However, you should be careful when you are about to use this oil. If you have sensitive skin, applying essential oil directly to your skin might cause issues, such as burning skin. This oil is also dangerous for pets. Check out these ways below to safely use essential oils.

Diffusion

The first is diffusion. As you can guess from the name, diffusion is the way to use essential oil by using a diffuser. You can pour 3 drops to 4 drops of essential for a 50 ml diffuser, 5 drops to 8 drops for a 100 ml diffuser, and 8 drops to 12 drops for a 180 ml diffuser. It can be said that diffusion is the safest way to use essential oil. This way, the essential oil is diffused or spread in the air in a small amount. So, you can just casually inhale it in your bedroom.

Topical

Topical is the way to use essential oil by applying it to the skin. But if your skin is easily irritated or sensitive, then you can mix the essential oil with carrier oils, such as olive oil or virgin coconut oil, body cream, or body lotion to make it safe on your body. Once the essential oil is absorbed through your skin, it can reduce pain, relieve indigestion, and even remove toxins from your body.

Mix with Bath Water

The next safe way to use an essential oil is by mixing it with your bathwater. But similar to the topical way, you should mix the essential oil with carrier oils first before you pour it to your bathwater. You can mix it with virgin olive oil or virgin coconut oil. Please note that you should not take a bath with essential oil for a long time.

Compress

If you or your kids are having a fever, you can use essential oil to reduce it. Use the useful oil to compress your forehead. Pour 250 ml of water in a bowl, then mix it with 2 drops to 4 drops of essential oil. Then, soak a clean cloth in the mixture for a minute. After that, you can put the cloth on your forehead for 10 minutes to 15 minutes. If you want to use this way to relieve fever in your kids, it is safe only for kids aged above 2 years old.

Indirect Inhalation

Inhalation is the process of breathing air or steam into the lungs. If you want to inhale an essential oil, you can pour a drop to 2 drops of essential oil to a cloth, handkerchief, tissue, or cotton. Then, you can inhale it. This way is useful to relieve nasal congestion and flu.
