The Problem
Cloud storage services like Dropbox and Google Drive are great for backing up your important documents and files. But, accessing such services can be difficult for people with limited internet connections.
Also, internet companies such as Dropbox have connections with the NSA to give access to your personal files upon a simple request. Don’t believe me? Ask Edward Snowden. Besides, if the recent iCloud hack has taught us anything that is we can never know when even the most protected online service will get hacked.
The Solution
What I’m trying to say is that you can’t trust anyone but yourself. Which is why I prefer to keep my most valuables data synced and backed up to a portable drive. It puts me in control of my own privacy, I don’t have to worry about hacks and saves my internet bandwidth.
I recently found an awesome piece of software that made this process much easier for me. It’s called GoodSync2Go. Unlike other syncing softwares, GoodSync2Go gets installed on your portable device (eg-: Flash Drive or External Hard Drive) and you can simply connect it with two or more computers to effortlessly sync and backup your data. Here’s how it works.
Step 1- Download GoodSync2Go software and install it on your portable device.
Step 2- Create a job. Choose either to sync files back and forth or just backup data to the portable device.
Step 3- Choose a source folder (the folder you want to backup) and a destination folder (where files get backed up). Or you can create a new destination folder on your portable device to store the files.
Step 4- Click Analyze and then Sync the files
Step 5- (optional) Click on Auto and then configure a method to automatically sync the folders periodically or every time you open GoodSync2Go.
Step 6- You’ll have to create a new job and configure folders to sync those files with a different computer.
That’s it! Now, every time you make a change to either the source or destination folders, add new files, the files will automatically sync between the PC and the portable device.
Using GoodSync2Go is definitely better than having to manually copy-paste the files between devices each time you make a change. And it is much better and safer than using cloud storages.

GoodSync2Go is free to use. Although the free version only allows you to process 3 jobs with a limit of 100 files per job. You can upgrade to the Pro version to enjoy the full benefits of the software if you’re serious about offline file syncing.
