How to Propose in a Way She Will Actually Like?

By Therealsupermum @TheRealSupermum

Getting married is easy. You organize it all and then turn up and say a few words and you’re done. A marriage proposal on the other hand you do all on your own. You have to build up the courage, assuming you are sure she’s the one; and you have to get a ring of some kind, and then pick a good location and work out how you’re going to do it. You don’t want to mess it up either as details of the act are all that people will ask you about until it starts getting near the actual wedding.

So here’s some advice from someone who did A LOT of thinking before he did it:

Doesn’t Have to be on One Knee

Well it’s not really the getting down on one knee thing that is important, it’s more the way that you make a bit of a scene about it. I don’t mean necessarily even in public, but as long as you make it a moment, more than just a casual comment while doing the washing up.

She wants to know that you have tried to make it special for her, but more importantly she probably doesn’t want to be embarrassed. Unless you know she would love it. Plus she wants you to make some kind of speech about how much you mean to her and all that.

Definitely don’t: do it in a funny voice when you’re drunk, wearing an adult nappy. And don’t let her try to dictate how you do it – like Kim Kardashian did apparently.

Time it Well

Of course you can do it any time of day or night, but what I mean is ‘timing in your life’. How long have you been together? Are you both in a good place in your life? Would you be doing it for the wrong reasons? For instance probably the only time to do it early in a relationship is if you intend on having a long engagement. Or later in the relationship when you both know your lives are going to work together for definite.

Just think long and hard about the reality of the situation, but don’t forget about being spontaneous and romantic. Most women like that. And remember: there will never be a perfect time in your life to get engaged, so don’t wait for it.

Definitely don’t: tell her that you are waiting until your team wins the league so you can propose when you run on the pitch.

Hope this advice helps. Good Luck!
