Good afternoon everyone! I am so happy to be blogging again after a week and a bit of constant studying. Today, I wanted to do a post on how I get my hair volumized at the roots. I have very straight, thin hair (but lots of it) and I find if I don't use any products, my hair stays flat to my head. I have teased my hair in the past, and I sometimes still tease it a bit if I am going to wear my hair up in a ponytail. Otherwise, when I leave my hair down it usually just creates a lot of frizz. So I have found a few good products and have a couple tips when it comes to giving your hair a little bit of volume and making it look natural.

Condition your hair from the ears down.

I love conditioner. It helps untangle my hair and keeps it hydrated and clean. But using too much of it all over your hair can really weight it down. I like to use 2-3 pea size amounts (I have long hair), lather the bottom ends of your hair. I like to do from the ears down. Sometimes if my hair is really tangled I will use a TINY bit on top but just enough to help with tangles.

Alterna Bamboo Volume: Plumping Strand Expand-$22

After combing out my hair (still damp), I use about 2-3 pumps of this product. I apply it to the sides of my face on the hair line and then where I part my hair. When I first was recommended this product at Sephora I was a little hesitant because it feels like you are putting lotion in your hair and it doesn't smell that great. BUT I tried it and it really works, and I am very happy with it. It is very lightweight but gives your hair fullness and volume at the roots.
This product is expensive, but it has lasted a long time. If you don't want to go out and purchase this product,  I would suggest using a hair mousse. Just use a tiny bit of it and rub it into the hair line.

Flip hair over when blow drying.

After applying the Alterna product, I usually do my makeup and let my hair air dry for about 10 minutes (this isn't necessary, you can blow dry your hair right after applying the product--this is just what I do!). When blow drying your hair, flip your hair over. I also like to flip my hair over in the direction that it WONT be styled because it helps create a lot of volume. When I use the volumizing product and this step my hair stays volumized all day and does not go flat.
Just a side note, I don't fully dry my hair. I just dry it enough so that the roots are dry and about 60% of my hair. The rest I just leave to air dry.

If you want to add some extra volume, I would recommend using a dry shampoo. I really like Suave Dry Shampoo. Spray it on the roots of your hair and then rub it in. I find you have to be careful when you rub in dry shampoo because on my hair it easily creates frizz. To avoid this, I apply dry shampoo under a couple layers of hair (not directly on the top of my part) and then rub it in. That way if it frizzes you can't see it because its not on top.
