How to Look Stylish When it is Too Hot to AccessorizeAs summer rolls on, it's getting hotter and hotter outside. As the mercury rises, when it comes to accessorizing, in the immortal words of Cole Porter, It's too darn hot. This can be frustrating because accessorizing can really make an outfit. But, even for me, an accessories lover, on a hot and humid day I don't want to even think about it. Forget a scarf. Are you kidding? Necklaces just feel heavy on a sweaty neck and just wearing clothes feels like a chore. So, what do you do when it is too hot to accessorize? Here are some tips for pulling a great look together without the fuss of too much.

How to Look Stylish When it is Too Hot to Accessorize

Tip #1- Wear a colorful pair of shoes

It's too hot for unnecessary accessories, like necklaces and scarves, but you have to wear shoes no matter how hot it is outside. For the accessories you have to wear, like shoes, go for colorful ones to instantly add some punch to your balmy day looks.

Here I styled this hot weather dress from Lucky Brand with a pair of yellow slingback clogs from Anthropologie to give the outfit a bit of a punch. Next, earrings. Necklaces may be off limits, but earrings won't get you overheated. This yellow pair from Nordstom may not be necessary, like shoes are, but they add some excitement without making you too hot. Lastly, I styled this look with a reversible vegan tote.

Tip #2- Colorblock your outfit

Colorblocking, which simply means to wear multiple solid colors in one outfit, is an easy way to make a look more exciting without the assistance of a lot of accessories and can make even the most basic of outfits look interesting.

In this look, I used a green cotton pencil skirt from J. Crew and styled it with a bright pink top from Modcloth. For the shoes, I used these colorblocked pumps from BCBGMAXAZRIA and finished the look with a golden handbag Michael Michael Kors and teal earrings from Max & Chloe.

Tip #3- Wear prints

There is a reason why you see so many prints in the stores in the summer. Prints make outfits look finished without a lot of accessorizing. Here, for example, I used this printed tank from Boden and styled it with a denim skirt from Madewell. For a splash of color, I pulled the colors from the tank and used them for the yellow bag from Baggallini and coral platform sandals from Clarks.

Your prints don't have to just be in your tops. This striped skirt from Zara adds some fun interest to the outfit that has been simply styled with a white, sleeveless top from Theory. To pop the look further, I pulled the burgundy from the stripe and added these flat shoes from Modcloth. The look is finished with a black handbag from Banana Republic.

Tip #4- Use functional accessories

This printed maxi dress from Mango doesn't need a lot of accessories to look finished. However, when choosing accessories, when it is really too hot to accessorize, choose ones that function. For example, a sun hat, like this one from Nordstrom, not only gives the outfit some polish but also shields from the sun. Sunglasses, like these from Fossil, do the same thing. They finish the outfit and protects the eyes. The outfit is finished with a pair of brown flat sandals from Macy's and gold wristlet from Relic.

You can still look stylish when it is too hot to put an elaborate outfit together. With these tricks and tips you'll be cool, calm and collected.
