If it happens to you, it means that you have an oily hair. Oil glands present in the scalp keep the hair shafts from breaking and protect your scalp from dryness and other such problems. So secretion of oil in the scalp is necessary to have a healthy scalp and hair. But sometimes these glands secrete more oil than that is required for your hair. This may happen due to some hormonal changes, hereditary problems or the texture of your hair. This makes your hair oily and greasy. But you need not worry about this condition as there are many home remedies to combat this problem.
You get a number of products in the market promising that they can treat oily hair and provide bounce and life to your hair. However, how effective they are is not yet proved. Here we will discuss some home remedies for oily hair, which is cheap and effective, without any side effects as such.
Best Home Remedies for Oily Greasy Hair:
Aloe Vera treatment:
Aloe vera is one of the best remedies for oily hair. Mix one teaspoon each of aloe vera and lemon juice in one cup of shampoo and store this in the fridge. You can wash your hair with this shampoo every day. It will last for one week.
Baking soda:
Add 2 to 3 tbsp of baking soda to 1 liter of water, apply on the hair and then shampoo after 20 minutes. This helps in removing greasiness from your hair.
Diluted vinegar and lemon juice rinse:
Add two tablespoon of vinegar or juice of a lemon to 1 cup of water and rinse your hair with this after you shampoo your hair. Then rinse your hair with tepid water. This can control oil in the hair.
Every alternate day Shampooing:
If you have oily hair, the sebum, dirt and the impurities will deposit on your scalp and clog the pores. So make sure that you shampoo your hair at least every alternate day. This will keep your scalp clean. When you apply the shampoo, rub your scalp gently with your fingertips. This prevents any scalp buildups.
Egg yolk and lemon juice:
Take two egg yolks and add a few drops of lemon juice to it, beat well and apply on your hair. Leave for a few minutes and rise off well.

Oiling the hair is necessary for the health of your hair and scalp. So, make sure that you treat your hair with oil once in a week. Take coconut oil and almond oil and mix them. Also add a few drops of tea tree essential oil. Apply this mixture on your scalp and hair. Leave for an hour and then wash with a good and mild shampoo. Hot oil treatment is also very effective.
Lemon:
Mix the juice of two lemons with 2 cups of distilled water and store. After you shampoo your hair, pat dry the hair and massage your scalp and hair with this solution. Wait for 5 minutes and then wash well. Lemon is also good for removing dandruff.
Never over brush your hair:
Do not brush your hair too much if you have oily hair as it makes the oil to get distributed throughout your hair.
Oatmeal:

Try Beer rinse:
Alcohol and beer are good for oily hair. Mix half a cup of beer or alcohol with two cups of water and use this as the last rinse. This reduces oiliness and helps in making your hair shine.
Similarly, tea rinse and mint rinse are also good for reducing greasiness.
Use special shampoos:
For oily hair, you must use shampoos that are specially formulated for oily hair. For normal hair you need shampoo with pH between 4.5 and 6.7. For oily hair the pH must be more than that.
Use conditioners carefully:
Conditioners are not good for oily hair as they only coat the hair. So apply them at the ends of the hair only if necessary.
Use Baby powder:
If you are in a hurry, sprinkle some baby powder on your hair, leave for five minutes and then comb your hair. This will remove excess oil.
