How to End the Feeling of Futility

By Albert Wagner @albertwagner4
"Your sins are forgiven."
Sure you have heard that phrase many times before, referring to the work of Jesus.  In fact, you might have heard it so many times it doesn't really "sink in" when you hear it.
Have you thought about what it really means?  These posts, after all, pertain to adding meaning to your life.
This post looks at the phenomenon of hearing the same thing so many times it begins to lose meaning.
The first time to hear certain things they get your attention.  The first time to heard that Jesus came back to life, heard the sun was 90 million miles away or that a living baby can be born from a human body you were probably amazed (at least a little).  After time, though, they become a redundant, boring fact and actually seem to lose meaning.
(It is also true that time helps heal wounds and that acceptance is healthy.  The post is not saying you should dwell forever on the same fact_.
Perhaps, just a reminder now and then would help.
This phenomenon could applies to things other than the forgiveness of sins.  For example, how about:
  • The magnitude of the size of the universe?
  • The complexity of the human body?
  • How much a billion is?
  • There is no second chance in the torment of hell?
You have likely heard these things so many times that don't resonate the same way as they did.
Can we get the meaning back?
What Does This Mean In Your Life?
The point is that this happens in life in general.  People are exposed to similar things and slowly seem to lose "value."
For example, some say those who see violence on T.V. regularly have become "desensitized"  to it to the point seeing death does not bother them.
When life gets like this it is time to re-examine it, like these blog posts do.
There are wonders all around you, if you look closely.
There are Scientific wonders:
 -  such as the human body, earthquakes, birth, the World Wide Web, death
There are also Psychological wonders:
 - such as what you have been through in your life, Santa Claus, your purpose in the universe, mortality
These posts try to re-activate that wonder.  Do you remember what is was like to be a child?
How does a person do this?
Some suggestions to help are things like gratitude, meditation, religion, setting specific goals and doing what you think is right, regardless of the opinions of others.  When Jesus calls you to perfection in the Gospels, it can be loosely translated as "be all you can be."
"Keeping up with the Joneses" does not have to be your modus operandi.. That feeling of futility does not have to linger.
Just a friendly reminder:  You have the chance for an eternal life of bliss.
