How to Create Stylish Night Out Looks

How to Create Stylish Night Out Looks

I have gotten several requests to write a blog post about stylish night out looks. I don't know why I have avoided a post about this. Maybe it's because I'm such a home body. I rarely go out. I'm not an introvert, per se. Plenty of cheesy Facebook quizzes have defined me as an ambivert, which is a balance of introvert and extravert qualities.

Despite the suspicious legitimacy of a Facebook quiz, I do have to agree with this. While I like being out there, I quite often need to recharge my batteries away from others after being in large groups. I'm not someone who craves a girl's night out, despite having deep, longstanding relationships with my girlfriends. And, frankly, as gag-inducing as it might sound, my idea of a fun night is a Netflix binge and takeout with my husband.

That said, I do have a social life. I'm not a hermit. I think another reason I held off writing a post about this is because it just doesn't seem hard to put a stylish night out look together. You throw on a top, bottoms, a bunch of jewelry and you're done. But, clearly, I'm wrong because I have gotten several requests to blog about this. So let's do it.

Outfit #1- Fun tops

Fun tops are one of the most important things to have in your closet in order to create stylish night out looks. Easier said than done, right? If it was this easy I wouldn't be writing this post. I know this because I have one client who always seems to be on the constant search for these elusive tops. Yes, they can be hard to find, but it can be done.

I found this one from BCBG that I paired a basic pair of skinny black pants from Akris Punto. You don't need special pants for a night out. The top will elevate the pants for evening, as will the accessories. Often just adding some fun accessories to a more basic top can make it look more "night out" appropriate. I added this fun statement pendant and bracelet from Stella & Dot and hoop earrings from Argento Vivo. Finishing the look, I styled the outfit with a clutch from Botkier and peep toe booties from Louise et Cie.

Outfit #2- A fun night out dress

Finding a dress for a fun night out seems like a no-brainer but it can be more difficult than it seems. Sure, there are plenty of cocktail-y styles to choose from, but they can often look too dressy for a night out of drinks with girlfriends or dinner with your husband. Oftentimes, I find this to be the case with sheath dresses. Shifts, on the other hand, can read a bit more casual while still being dressy enough. I styled this kicky shift from Zara with a funky pair of heels in burgundy. Playing up the accessories, I added this bag from Reiss, a silver wrap bracelet, toggle necklace and tassel earrings from Bauble Bar.

Outfit #3- Jeans and a sweater

Wearing a sweater and jeans is another easy night out look. Yes, jeans and a sweater can be super casual, but if you choose the right sweater and jeans and you accessorize the look right, you can create a comfortable stylish night out look. In the example above, I selected a sweater from Treasure & Bond that has a cool cold shoulder detail on one arm. I know, the cold shoulder trend has been an oversaturated, not entirely well received, trend, but something about this one I like.

Even if you don't like a sweater like this, if you accessorize a nice basic sweater you can totally pull off the look for evening. One of my favorite casual night out looks used to be a basic slim dark turtleneck and jeans. I styled the outfit above with dark wash jeans from Madwell, a pair of cognac suede boots from Kristin Cavallari, a metallic MICHAEL Michael Kors bag, bib feather necklace, the same bracelet I used in the first look and earrings from Gorjana.

I hope these tips help you as you head out to find your tops, accessories and fun sweaters to create your own stylish night out looks.
